Lake Piburg is the landmark and natural jewel of Oetz. Originally, the depression of the lake was an old valley furrow parallel to the Ötztal. The lake is a popular destination due to its scenic location. On the hiking trails around Lake Piburg, you can experience natural highlights such as the Weller Bridge, the Achstürze near the Ötztaler Ache or Lake Habich. Lake Piburg is one of the oldest nature reserves in Tyrol. In 1929 it was declared a natural monument and is considered the heart of the Achstürze – Piburg Lake conservation area, which includes the cultural landscape north of the hamlet of Piburg, the block forest around the lake, part of the Ötztaler Ache and Lake Habich.
